Meet the trustees
Jan Lake, Chair of Trustees
I am happy to say that Forever Hounds Trust has been a big part of my life for a very long time! I have “grown up” with the charity and have been actively involved with the homing side of our work since 1995. Since that time, I have watched this wonderful charity grow from a very small ‘kitchen table’ organisation, to the leading independent (of racing) greyhound and lurcher rescue charity, with ethics and values to be proud of.
In 1999, I became a Trustee of Forever Hounds Trust, which was a very proud moment for me. I feel it is important to ‘lead from the front’ and so I have maintained my position as Volunteer Regional Homing Officer for Somerset and Wiltshire, alongside my Trustee role. I can fully appreciate the trials and tribulations of working at the ‘coal face’ as I frequently experience those difficulties, as well as all the highlights and enormous satisfaction too!
This heavy workload- (I have a full time job in order to keep my dogs in the manner to which they are accustomed)- as well as my various Forever Hounds Trust roles, means that I don’t always get my work-life balance right!! However, I am passionate about my work within Forever Hounds Trust, both what we have already achieved and also the path that lies ahead.
I have owned sighthounds for the past 16 years, but for the first time I now find myself without a greyhound in my life, having lost my beloved Linford in October 2013. A piece of my heart went with him and I know there are many of you who will identify with that. Over the years, Forever Hounds Trust has evolved hugely, but we hold the welfare of both our dogs and our volunteers very dear. I am so very proud to be a part of that.
Peter Stevenson, Treasurer
I am currently a part-time accountant in practice, with over 20 years’ experience specialising in the charity and not-for-profit sector. I work one or two days a week as the Finance Officer of one of the livery companies in London, and also with a number of charities and voluntary organisations local to my home in Oxford. I am Synod Treasurer in the United Reformed Church, and I have a particular interest in finance and governance issues affecting charities.
In my spare time I enjoy bridge, music and theatre.
I am delighted to be a trustee of Forever Hounds Trust. I have been involved with animal charities for more years than I care to remember – variously as a volunteer, Fundraising Manager and trustee. For much of this time I also pursued my professional career as a Chartered Surveyor before deciding to work exclusively in the charity sector.
My most recent role was a with a horse and donkey welfare charity based in Egypt. I have also worked for an animal rescue charity in Sussex and been involved with fundraising and campaigning for a number of animal welfare projects at home and abroad.I live near the sea which is a great delight for Dasher, the latest in a long – and much loved – line of rescued lurchers and other dogs.
