Annie the rescued Greyhound joins the congregation of Pershore Abbey

23/05/2016

Claire and Annie

A rescued greyhound is melting hearts in Pershore after finding a new home with vicar Claire Lording and becoming part of her congregation.

Claire, who is the vicar of Pershore Parish, gave Annie a home four months ago after the lovable dog found herself in the care of Forever Hounds Trust, Forever Hounds Trust.

Annie has quickly slotted into life with Claire and accompanies her to church, where she has been welcomed by parishioners. Claire says: “Annie is totally adorable and she’s loved by all who meet her. She gets invited on lots of playdates – my parishioners are always asking if she would like to go out for a walk!”

Annie has quickly become an honorary parishioner and joins the vicar every weekday evening for the evening service at Pershore Abbey. Claire says: “Annie is very relaxed and she follows me everywhere. She enjoys the services and is so well behaved. Every evening she jumps up and lets me know when it’s time to head to the Abbey!”

Claire says that one of Annie’s favourite places is the sofa in the Vicarage’s study, which means visiting parishioners may find they have to share it with her. Annie is also partial to jumping in visitor’s cars. Claire explains: “Annie loves going out in the car, mainly because it means a walk somewhere lovely. However, she will be quick to jump into a visitor’s car if they leave the door open for a fraction of a second too long!”

Finding such a happy home is wonderful for Annie, who was taken in by Forever Hounds Trust after she retired from the racing industry. Hilary Bubb, Regional Homing Officer for the charity says: “The Herefordshire and Worcestershire region of Forever Hounds Trust is run completely by volunteers, and it’s wonderful for us when our dogs go on to have such happy lives. There are so many greyhounds and lurchers in need of a home and we desperately want to be able to help more.”

Greyhounds and lurchers make great pets, something which Claire agrees with. She says: “I wouldn’t be without a greyhound. Annie is the fourth greyhound I have had and they have all been absolutely wonderful in very different ways. They bring so much joy to life. I really think everyone should have a greyhound!”

If you think you could offer a dog like Annie a home, please get in touch with Forever Hounds Trust on 03000 111 100 or email enquiries@foreverhoundstrust.org now.
