Forever Hounds Trust are looking for qualified canine behaviourists to join their team of Post Homing Support Volunteers.
This is immensely rewarding work, which is key to keeping our rehomed hounds in their Forever homes. We provide free, qualified behavioural advice to any owner of an FHT dog who is experiencing behavioural issues with their hound. These issues can range from simple settling in queries (such as toilet training or disturbed nights) to more complex behavioural problems.
All our dogs have a veterinary and behavioural assessment when they come into our care so we can ensure we match them to a home environment and lifestyle that suits their specific needs. As a Post Homing Support Volunteer, you will work mainly through email and telephone consultations but occasionally may make a home visit where this is essential and is geographically practical. If you are not experienced in working with sighthounds (who can have special issues, particularly ex racing greyhounds or ex working lurchers) we will give you support and specific information on their special needs.
While some of our team are Clinical Animal Behaviourists or have a degree in Animal Behavioural Science, Compass degree or similar, as a minimum we require intermediate level qualifications (e.g. Alpha Education Think Dog Intermediate etc.). A certificate (or working towards one) in canine health and nutrition e.g. CN Dip. would be an advantage.
If you are a student, working towards more advanced qualifications e.g. a B.Sc. in Animal Behavioural Science, Dip.CABT etc. you would find the experience of working with us invaluable and an asset to your c.v.
If you are interested and could spare a few hours a month (or have a behaviourist friend who might be interested) please email Carole Fahy for further information (please include a contact telephone number, and best time of day to contact you.
Thankyou!
