Wow – what an afternoon it was. Thank you for helping us to make it the best Buscot yet!
Hosted by Forever Hounds Trust Honorary Friend Lord Faringdon on the afternoon of Sunday 16th August, in the grounds of his home at the beautiful Buscot Park in Oxfordshire, we were blessed with perfect weather.
The event kicked off with the first ever Forever Hounds Trust Barking Bake Off and the star of the competition was Buscot Park’s resident whippet Snuff, who was the perfect judge for the canine cakes. She went along the line sniffing each entry in turn before going back and choosing her winner – a very tough judge indeed!
There was a wonderful display of yummy cakes in the human cake category, with such variation and talent on display that it was a hard choice for Buscot Park’s very own Mary B.
Next up was the auction with some fantastic lots including a dog-friendly holiday in Cornwall, a gorgeous Silver Peacock collar, Frith bronze sculptures and a dog-friendly break in a castle in Wales. Everyone was very generous with their bidding and we raised a wonderful total of £1,100.
The day wouldn’t have been complete without the homeless hounds’ parade and fun dog show in the paddock. There were dogs of all shapes and sizes in the dog show making it a very tough job for our judge Emily Burns-Sweeney.
We were delighted that Lord Faringdon’s son James and daughter-in-law Lucinda joined us to judge the last two classes. We think they had the toughest job of the whole day judging the Human and Hound Fancy Dress class. The costumes were amazing and we were graced with amongst others, a bee and his bee keeper, Fred Flintstone with his pet dinosaur Dino, and eventual winners Little Bo Peep and her sheep!
The tea room was busy all afternoon serving lots of tea and cake and we had a fantastic array of Forever Hounds Trust merchandise for sale, alongside other stalls.
The event was a wonderful occasion, which was enjoyed by all – some travelling from as far as the Isle of Wight to be there!
A big thank you to everyone who attended the event and everyone who supported it. Thanks to you we raised over an amazing £6,000 for the dogs in our care!
