24 March 2020
Dear Volunteers, Friends and Supporters,
You will all have heard the Prime Minister’s statement that has put our country into lockdown to stop the spread of the Covid-19 virus. From today, people must stay at home unless they have to get to an essential place of work, buy food or medicine, help the vulnerable or for one period of exercise a day.
Forever Hounds Trust will adhere to the guidelines and so from today, our way of operating must change.
Homing, Kennelling and Welfare operations
Our number one priority is to our amazing teams of staff and volunteers. Their priority is to the dogs in our care. As our dogs are in rented spaces at private boarding kennels, we have to follow their restrictions, so only owners and key staff are allowed on site. Forever Hounds Trust personnel are currently not able to visit the dogs.
Therefore we are unable to home dogs during this period or take in any rescues.* Contact us if you have a dog needing to come into our care and we will take all the details and be in touch once we are able to open up our intake into kennels. Rescue spaces are now at a real premium like never before.
PLEASE, we urge you not to consider giving up your dog at this very difficult time as you will be adding to the huge pressure rescues are already under and it is likely that no space will be found.
If you feel you are struggling and you need help or advice, please contact us on firstname.lastname@example.org.
Despite being unable to visit our dogs ourselves, we will be getting regular updates on how our dogs are doing in kennels, so we can keep our volunteer dog walkers posted.
Our kennel owners are in contact with our veterinary partners and key staff for any emergency health issues that need dealing with.
Our behaviour team is focussing on providing advice on social enrichment for kennels dogs. They will be producing information on how you can keep your dog stimulated and exercised whilst you are restricted in your movements. These leaflets will be posted on our Help and Advice pages on our website.
If you own a Forever Hounds Trust dog and need behavioural advice, our Post Homing Support Team of qualified behaviourists is available to help and support you and your special companion. Contact them at email@example.com.
We do still want home offers and if you want to be put on a waiting list to be contacted once the current restrictions are lifted, please get in touch with us by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
Foster home offers are on hold for the time being. Thank you so much for all your lovely offers and we will be in touch once we are able to resume business as usual.
Our Oxford office is now closed. The admin, finance, fundraising and supporter teams are working from home. We will try to keep to normal office opening hours, but this may not always be possible.
The phones will be transferred to a rota of staff members and volunteers, so we ask you please to only ring us if you have a genuine emergency or there is a dog in need of immediate assistance.
If you are looking for general sighthound advice, go to our website in the first instance and if you cannot find what you are looking for there, email us on email@example.com. Please be patient as you wait for a response.
Our social media pages are manned as usual and messages will be responded to, but again, please be patient as you wait for a response.
How you can support us
It is essential that we continue to raise funds to care for our hounds and pay for kennels spaces, food and medical treatments. We will just have to do things differently!
All events, collections and fundraising activities have been cancelled for the foreseeable future. If you have a specific query relating to an event, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you wish to make a donation to help one of our dogs in kennels, or to make a contribution to any of our dogs that you would have liked to foster, please do so by following this link.
We are planning lots of fun ways for you to raise funds for our hounds from your home. Details will be found on our web site, so keep an eye out for the latest suggestions!
Our charity shop in West Sussex and our supportive charity shop in Bournemouth are now closed. We are looking at other ways you can support us by buying merchandise from us, and we will continue to fulfil orders and deliveries via our online shop. We may face delays in getting stock from suppliers, so please bear with us.
We rely entirely on the generosity of our supporters and donors to rescue, care for and home greyhounds and lurchers in need. If you find you have a little extra money at the end of the week after having cancelled that dinner date, then please consider donating it to our charity – our hounds need you now more than ever.
We wish you and your two and four legged families all the very best.
The Forever Hounds Trust team.
*With the exception of those dogs currently on their way to us, or leaving us for foster or adoption, as arranged prior to last night’s announcement.
