Handsome Barney is a 4 year-old ex-racing greyhound who is looking for his forever home. He is a firm favourite thanks to his affectionate nature and cheeky ways!
He is in foster where he is learning how to live in a home. He’s doing very well as he gains confidence and becomes comfortable with his environment. He may need time to readjust when he is adopted, but his foster carers found he started to feel comfortable within a few days when he arrived in their care. Before long, he was joining them relaxing on the sofa which is now his very favourite resting place!
Barney has quickly learnt how to be clean in the house and is respectful with possessions, both his and that of his foster family. He has previously only ever known life in kennels, so there are a lot of new and different noises he is still getting used to. He can be startled by dogs barking around him, so a home in a quiet neighbourhood would suit him best.
Barney is quite independent in the house and doesn’t follow his fosterers around…unless they go into the kitchen of course! He enjoys human attention and company and will happily settle next to them of an evening. He is learning about being left on his own and is doing well for short durations. It should be possible to build this up over a longer period.
Barney’s favourite things are toys! He loves playing with them and quite happily amuses himself with squeaky toys. He also enjoys chasing balls! He is a clever boy and has enjoyed doing enrichment activities, especially puzzle toys and feeders.
Barney enjoys going for walks and generally minds his own business unless other dogs bark at him. Whilst he likes the company of other sighthounds, he doesn’t really understand other breeds, therefore, he would prefer to walk in areas where there aren’t too many off lead dogs that could approach him. He also pulls if he’s latched onto an interesting scent, so will need someone strong enough to hold him, and maybe a squeaky toy to distract him!
Barney is a truly lovely boy, who, will make someone a lovely companion, especially now he is learning how to live in a home. Would you like loveable Barney in your life? Please get in touch!
