Say hello to our father-son dynamic duo, Billy and Hughie. Big boy Billy is a 7 year old deerhound/greyhound cross, who definitely doesn’t act his age! He’s looking for a forever home along with his 4 year old son Hughie, a handsome boy who has the most beautiful eyes!
Both boys are very sociable and full of fun, though Billy is the more outgoing of the two and gives confidence to his son when out and about. Since coming into our care, they’ve proven themselves to be friendly with dogs of all shapes and sizes. Billy can sometimes be a little full-on when saying hello, which may be off-putting to some dogs given his size! They’re not such big fans of cats and other small furries, which they’d both really like to chase. Both walk well on-lead in general, but Billy in particular can be very strong when he spots a squirrel or wants to check out an exciting sniff! Their adopters must be physically strong, and ideally they’ll need one handler each on walks.
Billy and Hughie are both really affectionate, interactive and loving dogs who thrive on human attention. Hughie can be a little more reserved when first meeting someone new, but quickly gains confidence. Billy is very enthusiastic about meeting people (especially people he knows) and will tend to jump up in excitement. This can be quite overwhelming due to his extra-large size, though he doesn’t mean any harm. He especially likes to give bear-hugs, and is often almost at face height when he does this! He can be pretty full-on when playing too, so we’re looking for a home with older children only. Any kids in his new home must also be robust enough to cope with his enthusiasm, and comfortable around large, boisterous dogs!
Since we don’t know much about their lives before coming into our care, we’re unsure whether they’re house trained or used to spending any time alone. We suspect they have probably lived in a home previously, but can’t be sure. Both boys travel fairly well in the car, and try to be clean in their kennels as much as they can.
We’re really hoping that we can find a home for Billy and Hughie as a pair, despite their combined size! If you’re a lover of big hounds and have space in your life to let this loving family stay together, please get in touch.
