Three year old saluki lurcher Darcy is an absolute sweetheart, who is just lacking in a little bit of confidence. It takes time to build her trust, but once she gets to know you, she is an absolute delight to be around! Darcy definitely takes confidence from other dogs, afterall, if they aren’t scared, there is no reason for her to be either! It’s then she really comes alive, and so would need to be homed with another social and playful dog who would provide her with oodles of confidence…..she would definitely ‘swipe left’ for another playful saluki cross as they would be her perfect match – check out the video of her playing with her friend below!
Given the fact that Darcy can be anxious around new people, situations and loud noises, she would like to live in a quiet suburban, or rural location, where there are less scary things around. She walks nicely on the lead, and isn’t too strong, so relatively easy to manage if her playful streak overcomes her! Whilst she is VERY dog friendly, she may need some help in learning that not every dog wants to play, so as not to get into any awkward situations.
The rewards for gaining Darcy’s trust are amazing, and our volunteers are humbled that she has become completely happy and relaxed in their presence – she is very loving and expressive with people she knows. Anyone interested in adopting Darcy will need to be prepared to visit the kennels a few times in order to build her trust and confidence in the same way, only once she is happy and confident with her visitors (which may take slightly longer with men), will she be able to go home.
She was found as a stray, so we don’t know her history, but all she needs is a lovely home, with understanding people who will be prepared to show commitment to using positive training methods, and provide her with all the love and reassurance she needs. Meet all these requirements, and you will not be disappointed with this cracker – Little Miss Darcy!
