Deven is a handsome greyhound boy, looking for a family who understand ex-racing hounds. He is generally outgoing and sociable – but like many ex-racers with little experience of life, he does have a sensitive side and can be worried in new situations and environments.
Deven enjoys the company of both hounds and different dog breeds on walks, but can sometimes be uncomfortable around more excitable dogs, or dogs entering his personal space. He will growl to let the other dog know that he isn’t comfortable, and his adopters must support him in maintaining space when he needs it. He would not like to share his home with another dog, or be walked in areas where off-lead dogs will run over to him. Deven has become much more sociable with other dogs since his neutering operation, but adopters should be realistic about how much dog interaction he will tolerate.
Deven is affectionate and loves human company. He tends to be fairly gentle and doesn’t jump up a lot. Again like a lot of dogs (especially ex-racers) he isn’t sure about more intense interaction like being hugged and kissed. Although he has never shown any aggression towards people, he needs sensible adopters who will not overwhelm him with too much handling before he is ready.
Deven walks well on the lead (but is a big boy who could be strong if excited!). He absolutely loves travelling in the car/van and is always keen to jump in! Since Deven has never lived in a home before, he is unlikely to be house trained and may take some time to settle and relax. Deven is a sweet boy who is just waiting for someone to snap him up!
