Five-year-old ex racing greyhound Emma is a real black beauty. She arrived from Ireland with her sister Maia, having raced 45 times. Now she’s looking forward to her well-deserved retirement in a forever home.
Everything about the world outside racing kennels is new to Emma, and she’s understandably worried about unfamiliar places, people and experiences. She will need to live in an adult-only home where she will be given patience and space to come out of her shell. She can be social and cuddly when she gets to know you, but will need to get there in her own time. The key is letting her come to you when she is ready.
Emma hasn’t shown a lot of interest in toys, but she does like to parade around the paddock with a rope tuggie in her mouth, so her new family should expect her to collect favourite items and store them in her bed! This behaviour is likely to make her feel more settled so should be encouraged.
This lovely lass has responded well to her fellow kennel hounds, and would do well living with another medium or large dog who can show her the ropes of being a pet. She’s much happier walking in company, and will need quiet, unexciting places to exercise while she adjusts to life in the outside world. As an ex-racer, care will need to be taken around small furry animals, plus a firm hand on the lead in case she spots something chaseable.
This beautiful girl is looking for the chance to make a home her own, and we can only echo Jane Austen in saying that our own Emma is the “sweetest and best of all creatures”. Could you be the family to set her on the path to a new and wonderful life? If so, please get in touch.
