Maia – HOMED
- Whippet X
- Would like the company of another dog or dogs
Beautiful, shy Maia is desperately looking for a new family, to teach her that people can be kind. Can you help?
Maia is a young saluki/whippet cross who originally came to us from Ireland. We don’t know much about her early life, but it is clear that poor Maia must have been treated very badly by humans in the past. She is painfully shy of new people, and especially fearful of men. Although Maia has been adopted previously, her nervousness causes her to struggle with home life. Unfortunately, she has recently found herself back in kennels for the third time because of this.
Maia is a fun-loving girl with a sweet, cheeky personality which starts to shine through when she feels safe. However, she needs a very special home in order to flourish and although she likes other dogs she DOES NOT get on with cats. Maia takes a lot of confidence from the company of other dogs, and will need to live with at least one other dog in her new home. Her ideal home would be one without any resident men, so that she can learn to trust men at her own pace. She has never shown any aggression, but so far has not been able to cope in a home with a resident man. Maia’s new family will need to be very patient and understanding, as she will take a long time to settle in and feel comfortable around them. Less is definitely more with Maia, and she will gain confidence only if she is put under no pressure to interact with people. Experience with very nervous dogs would be helpful, but is not necessary as Maia’s new family will have plenty of support and guidance from our behaviour team.
Maia is such a sweet little girl, and a favourite with all our volunteers. She is only a baby, but has been through so much already and needs a kind, gentle family to show her that life isn’t all scary! She just needs a quiet, low-pressure home environment with owners who will give her the space she needs to settle in. If you think you have the time and patience to give Maia the life she really does deserve, please get in touch.
