Bonham Wood walk at Stourhead.
This walk does not require National Trust membership (non-members are required to pay for parking, see information below).
Explore Bonham Wood at Stourhead on this short, circular walk which takes you behind the Temple of Apollo and through picturesque woodland, returning along the disused airfield that formed part of RAF Zeals during the Second World War.
There is a small stretch of quiet, single track public road linking the woodland to the airfield.
Route mostly flat and easily accessible but some slopes through woodland. Dogs must be on lead.
Full trail: Miles: 2.5 (km: 4)
Duration: 1 hour – 2 hours
Terrain:
The paths are mostly surfaced with natural woodland floor, gravel or grass. Route is mostly flat and easily accessible but there are some slopes through the woodland. Paths can be muddy and boggy in wet weather, so sturdy footwear advisable.
The end of the walk is through the National Trust car park which leads back to the meeting place where there is a dog friendly National Trust cafe (dogs are allowed in a designated area of the cafe). There is additionally an outdoor refreshment kiosk (usually stocking doggy ice cream).
National Trust are operating a pay and display car park where car park charges will apply for non-members (£4.50 all day). N.B. Correct at time of posting.
Important update from The National Trust:
“Please be aware that we do have a wedding happening on Saturday at our Apollo Temple, so there will be a shuttle bus driving back and forth along the woodland tracks in Bonham woods and there are also sheep grazing in the area you will be walking so we please ask that all dogs are kept on short leads at all times, we sadly had a dog attack a few days ago on site injuring a sheep and her lamb badly so the sheep are likely to be more skittish than normal.”
