Forever Hounds Trust is making an urgent appeal to find a home for a very regal looking three year old greyhound they have named Windsor.
Windsor, a former racing greyhound, came into Forever Hounds Trust’s care around the time of the Queen’s 90th birthday and is being looked after in Cindeford, Gloucestershire. Kennel and Welfare Coordinator for the region, Barbara Hedges, explains: “He has a very regal look about him and we instantly knew that he would be befitting of a royal name. We chose Windsor and it couldn’t be more suitable for him!”
The lovable dog raced at Sheffield until February this year, when he retired from the industry and later came to Forever Hounds Trust in search of a new life as a companion animal. He is in a wonderful condition, with a shiny black coat and incredibly handsome features. A vet has given him a clean bill of health and he is ready to find a new home he can call his own.
Barbara, who volunteers her time for Forever Hounds Trust, says: “Windsor looks very regal but he does have a cheeky side. He has the kind of nose that can sniff around corners and sneak into pockets to help himself to treats! He walks very calmly and has such a lovably nature he is sure to make a wonderful pet. He really deserves a happy life.”
Forever Hounds Trust are keen to find homes for Windsor and the other greyhounds and lurchers in their care. The organisation believes there has been a reduction in the number of people able to offer homes to rescued dogs as a result of a national change in circumstances. “The economic and housing situation in the UK is now having an effect on dogs like Windsor” says Jan Lake, trustee of Forever Hounds Trust. “More people are in privately rented accommodation, and often pets are not allowed. We have seen a significant drop in the number of people rehoming dogs in the last few years, with half as many dogs finding new homes this year when compared to 2012.”
