Forever Hounds Trust are making an urgent appeal to find a home for a lovable greyhound, who is looking for a home after hanging up his racing vest.
Yankee, an incredibly handsome black greyhound, is currently being looked after by Forever Hounds Trust in Maidstone while a new home is sought for him.
Volunteers have been quick to fall in love with this affectionate four-year-old dog, and say that he is very calm and well behaved. Chris Berry, Regional Homing Officer for the Forever Hounds Trust said: “Yankee is going to make a wonderful companion for someone. He walks like a dream on the lead and settles well in the home. He’s in fabulous condition and with his gorgeous black coat he attracts admiring glances wherever he goes.”
Yankee has been with Forever Hounds Trust for three months now and is more than ready to go to his forever home. Chris adds: “Yankee has been passed fully fit by our vet and is neutered, micro-chipped and fully vaccinated. All he needs now is to find a home he can call his own. Greyhounds make great pets. We affectionately refer to them as the 40 mph couch potato as they really don’t need all that much exercise and like nothing better than a snooze on the sofa!”
Forever Hounds Trust are keen to find homes for Yankee and the other greyhounds and lurchers in their care. The organisation believes there has been a reduction in the number of people able to offer homes to rescued dogs as a result of a national change in circumstances. “The economic and housing situation in the UK is now having an effect on dogs like Yankee” says Jan Lake, trustee of Forever Hounds Trust. “More people are in privately rented accommodation, and often pets are not allowed. We have seen a significant drop in the number of people rehoming dogs in the last few years, with half as many dogs finding new homes this year when compared to 2012.”
