Serial fundraiser Gareth Bishop of Blandford Forum has completed his training and is all set for his latest charity challenge of trekking the daunting Inca Trail in Peru in aid of Forever Hounds Trust. Gareth will finally leave for Peru on 19th September after months of planning and training.
Gareth has had his sights set on trekking to Machu Pichu since scaling Mount Kilimanjaro for the charity last year. His rigorous training includes regular training walks, runs and gym sessions. He has also climbed Mount Snowdon and has recently completed the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge in just over 12 hours.
Gareth, a train guard for South West Trains, has already raised £400 and is hoping to surpass the £1415 he raised last year for the charity through climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. This latest challenge will see him trekking for five days up to height of 14,583 feet above sea level to support the charity’s New Life Appeal.
Gareth says of his latest fundraising challenge, “I thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of raising money for Forever Hounds Trust last year and this latest adventure to Peru looks to be just as exciting. Our family adopted a greyhound, Kelly, from the charity last year and she has brought so much joy to us all that this has inspired me to don my walking boots yet again to help support these often over-looked older hounds. I was delighted with all of the support I received last year when I climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and I aim to raise even more money this year with my Machu Pichu trek and I would be grateful for any donations no matter how small”.
This latest challenge ties in with Forever Hounds Trust’s recently launched New Life Appeal, which aims to find forever homes for older greyhounds and lurchers, who are all too often over-looked. Many of the dogs who arrive in the charity’s care are in their twilight years and the charity never turns a dog away because he or she is too old, so funds are desperately needed to help support them.
Rachel Grocott, CEO of Forever Hounds Trust, commented, “We believe that every dog deserves the chance of a new life and our New Life Appeal aims to help re-home and care for as many of these dogs in need as possible. We are so grateful to Gareth for his dedication to the charity and are delighted that he has set himself a new challenge to support our vital work”.
