Bathford resident Michele Marshall, 48, has put on her running shoes to train for her first ever running event – the Bath Half Marathon, which takes place on 13th March 2016.
Michele is running to raise funds for Somerset-based charity Forever Hounds Trust, Forever Hounds Trust, after adopting her own lurcher, Lily, from them four and a half years ago.
Michele explains how Forever Hounds Trust nursed Lily back to health after a hard start in life. “Lily oozes a loving, happy vibe and is adored by everyone who meets her. She’s super-laidback considering her rocky past. As far as we know she was found abandoned, having spent a long time straying through the freezing, snowy winter of 2010. She was found incredibly underweight and with nasty mange. Now she’s healthy, happy and unstoppable – the beach is her favourite place where she will run and run just for the sheer joy of it!”
It was Michele’s determination to help more dogs like Lily that led her to sign up to run the Bath Half Marathon for Forever Hounds Trust. Michele adds: “I started running in March last year using the brilliant NHS ‘Couch to 5k’ app on my phone. It eased me in gently and I can’t get over how long I can run for now, considering I started off exhausted by one minute runs interspersed with two minute walks!”
However, Michele would like to encourage more runners to sign up to the Bath Half Marathon with Forever Hounds Trust, who have a few spaces left to fill. Michele said: “I want to continue supporting Forever Hounds Trust. I can’t take in another dog yet but I want to raise the profile of how wonderful greyhounds and lurchers are as pets, and raise funds to help the work Forever Hounds Trust does in rescuing them and finding happy homes.”
