Delta and Sierra are two lovely little greyhound sisters who are looking for a home together following a very tough time. Aged between ten and 12 years old, these girls have lived for most of their lives in a small concrete enclosure.
Having been rescued by Forever Hounds Trust, Delta and Sierra are being cared for by volunteers near Bath. The charity is desperate to find these girls a home of their own where they can live out their days amid the comfort and affection they deserve.
Forever Hounds Trust Chair of Trustees, Jan Lake, explains: “Delta and Sierra travelled to us from Ireland, where they were discovered along with two brothers living in terrible conditions. The four greyhounds were in a filthy, wet concrete pen in a back garden with only a broken and leaking shed for shelter and no bedding of any description.
“We believe they originally shared the pen with their mother, who has since died, and that they came to the pen when they were puppies. For a decade the dogs have slept, eaten and toileted on that concrete slab and from what we know, they hadn’t left the pen for many years.”
All four of the dogs have been looked after by Forever Hounds Trust. While the two boys, Foxtrot and Tango, have found their forever home, Delta and Sierra are still searching.
Jan added: “It has been lovely getting to know these gentle girls and seeing their transition from neglected animals to happy dogs that will make wonderful pets. While they have been with us we have witnessed them feeling grass under their feet for the first time, eating good food, sleeping on warm beds and of course we have given them plenty of love and attention. They are thriving and are more than ready to move onto the next part of their lives, as loving companion animals.”
Delta and Sierra are very attached to each other, therefore Forever Hounds Trust is looking for a home where they can continue to live together. Both greyhounds are quiet and gentle. Of the two, Delta is the more adventurous, and Sierra is happy to stay close to her sister. Sometimes so close that she ends up underneath her!
Jan explains: “While these gorgeous greyhounds may be old in years, they are definitely young at heart and have a lot of love to offer a new owner. While we make their time with us as happy as it can be, a kennel is no place for these girls. They need to be in a home and they certainly deserve to spend their time surrounded by love and affection. We would like more than anything to see them happily settled in a home as soon as possible.”
