Special dog ‘Tripaw’ Toby in need of loving new home after ordeal

20/07/2017

Toby the dog standing

Handsome Toby is a picture of happiness now, zipping around the garden of his foster home near Worcester, playing with toys. In fact, he’s so happy that it isn’t always obvious that he only has three legs.

Toby came into the care of greyhound and lurcher rescue charity Forever Hounds Trust earlier this year, unable to run around as he does now. A previous injury to his hind leg had left him with a painful and useless limb. It was decided that the only course of action for Toby was to remove the leg and help him to live a full and pain-free life on three paws.

Thanks to the love and dedication of the team of volunteers at Forever Hounds Trust, Toby has made an incredible recovery in a wonderful foster home, and to see him dashing about the garden now it’s hard to believe he only has three legs.

His recovery has been so good that it is now time for ‘Tripaw’ Toby, as he has come to be known, to find a forever home of his own where he can live life as a much-loved pet.

Emily Burns-Sweeney, Director of Homing, Kennelling and Welfare at Forever Hounds Trust says: “Toby is a really lovely lurcher who will make someone a wonderful companion. The loss of his leg hasn’t affected his ability to have lots of fun and he enjoys walks and is good on the lead. To our knowledge, his leg had been useless and painful for some time, so he was already used to using just his three good legs to get around anyway, and adapting to life after his operation has been very smooth for him.”

Toby currently lives happily beside the resident Labrador in his foster home. He is house trained, has been fine meeting with strangers and children, and sleeps well at night. The volunteers at Forever Hounds Trust who have been looking after him are keen to see him settled in a home of his own, although they will miss the lurcher who has touched their hearts.

Emily adds: “Dogs like Toby are the reason Forever Hounds Trust exists. We are here to help those greyhounds and lurchers that deserve a new life. Toby is no longer in pain and it’s a joy to see him happily running about and enjoying a game. We would like nothing more than to see him settled into a home of his own with a family that will love and take care of our Tripaw Toby.”

If you can offer a home to Toby, or a dog like him, please get in touch with Forever Hounds Trust on 03000 111 100 or email enquiries@foreverhoundstrust.org today.
