Spring Appeal

23/04/2023

Update 23/6/23

That’s it, all five of the appeal family are home forever! George is now living his best life with his lovely new mum, dad and four-legged friend! Thank you so much for giving him a happy future, just like his mum Cherry and siblings Miko and Walter.

Which, just leaves us to say a huge, heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who donated to this appeal. Look what a difference you kind donations have made to this beautiful hound family.

Update 18/06/23

Walter has gone home forever! Once again, thank you to everyone who has donated to this appeal to enable this to happen.

Walter’s life of neglect and hardship is now behind him, and he is now living his best life with his lovely new family which includes a fabulous little four-legged friend!

Thank you so much for giving him a happy future!

Update 01/06/23

Cherry has gone home forever! Thank you to everyone who donated to our appeal to enable this to happen.

Cherry’s life of neglect and hardship is now behind her, and she is living her best life, as can be seen from these gorgeous photos. Her lovely new mum and dad say, “she has settled in so quickly! She can be a crazy nutter at times but such a sweetheart who is learning things so quickly! We are so in love with her!”

We wish them all a very happy future together!

Update 26/05/23

Miko was cruelly abandoned in a car park with her mother, Cherry and brothers, George and Walter. They arrived scared, nervous and severely underweight with very irritated skin. However, after a period of recuperation, she is now home…forever!

Miko is now called Bambi, and her life of neglect is now well and truly behind her. In fact, she’s doing so amazingly well! She’s taking to training beautifully and looking so healthy! She loves sprinting around and then lying in the grass in the sun, watching the birds. Although she still wants to play with the resident cats, she’s making good progress in letting them be. She has a wonderful future ahead of her!

This has all been made possible thanks to your generous donations.

Cherry, George and Walter are doing really well too – keep your eyes peeled on this page for their homing stories in due course!

A huge thank you to every single person who has donated. Look at the difference your kind donations have made!

Update 12/05/23

Donate

We recently had a hound rescue reunion at our Devon centre – as you know, Cherry and Miko were discarded like rubbish, well, brothers George and Walter were sadly a part of this abandonment case too.

At a time when demand for our services and cost of living is at an all-time high, we continue to be there for dogs like George and Walter who have nowhere else to go as rescue centres are busting at the seams.

Cherry, Miko, George and Walter gleefully greeted each other; this was both heart-warming and heart-breaking to think about what they had all gone through together. We are just so glad they are now getting the care they deserve.

George and Walter are incredibly nervous, especially poor Walter, who clearly has lasting effects of their ordeal and is very nervous of men.

Although he is still wary and can sometimes try to hide, once he gets to know you Walter is a real softie and will melt into you when you’re fussing him. He enjoys the occasional zoomies but is much more of a cuddly boy! Despite still being a little bit nervous in certain situations, he is a cheeky monkey and captures your heart straight away. George is slightly more confident, and the team have been working with him to build his confidence. Like his brother, he’s smart and picks up things really quickly and to see this progress has been incredibly rewarding for us all. He can find kennels a little overwhelming and we feel he will be much more content and happy in a home environment. They have both made huge improvements since they arrived in our care.

We wouldn’t be able to take in emergency cases like Cherry, Miko, George and Walter without your help. If you can make a donation today, even £5 will make such difference to the lives of hounds in our care.

Update 7/5/23

Donate

Thank you SO much to everyone who has already donated towards our recent appeal. Miko heard about all the kind people that wanted to help her and her mum Cherry, and she is jumping for JOY. 😊

They are both making huge strides in their progress, and it has been wonderful to see their personalities shining through. Their skin has improved, even Cherry, who was in a very bad condition with her ears and feet incredibly sore. We have been giving her a prescribed antihistamine for the itching, and she has also had soothing baths twice a week, along with monthly flea/mite treatments. She even has let out a few zoomies here and there!

As soon as her skin clears up, we will be able to start her vaccinations.

Your donations really have put an extra spring in all our steps, and we are incredibly grateful for any amount you are able to give.

Please don’t throw me away.

It’s hard to think, especially when you look at Cherry’s adorable face, that she wouldn’t have a loving family but sadly, you’d be wrong. Her owner didn’t want her, or her puppy Miko, so they were discarded in a car park and left to fend for themselves.

I’m Sophie, I’m the centre manager at our Devon rescue centre and sadly we receive hundreds of similar calls to this story. Rescue centres are bursting at the seams with pleas for help during what is one of the most challenging times.

If we didn’t rescue Cherry & Miko, they would have had nowhere else to go and that doesn’t bear thinking about.

They arrived scared, nervous and severely underweight. Their extremely irritated skin had hairless patches and scabs throughout their coats. It broke our hearts to see them eating their food as quickly as they could, probably never used to knowing when their next meal will be.

After some time, their personalities started to shine through. Miko is a typical bouncy puppy and spends most of the time in the air on her walks! Cherry is taking longer to gain trust; this is building each day and we have all fallen in love with her gentle ways.  We believe every dog should be protected from neglect and abandonment. Which is why, even when we are in a cost-of-living crisis ourselves, we couldn’t turn this mother and puppy away and made the 130 mile trip to rescue them.

It cost us over £14,000 to treat the dogs we rescued in January.

It’s really hard to imagine someone leaving them in such a state. We are so glad that, with your help, we can be there for dogs during their darkest days.
