Forever Hounds Trust is making an urgent appeal to find a home for a three-legged greyhound who is currently in their care in Honiton, Devon.
Mary is a beautiful three-year-old black greyhound who lost her right back leg in a racing injury. Now, after being retired from racing, she is ready to start her life as a pet and is in need of a home she can call her own.
Volunteers at have been quick to fall in love with this quiet but lovely, affectionate girl, and say that the loss of her leg hasn’t stopped her getting around. “Mary still zooms around the paddock and has short bursts of energy” says Christine Hake, Regional Homing Officer for Forever Hounds Trust. “She does tire quite quickly though, so she doesn’t require a lot of walking and will make a wonderful companion for someone.”
Mary has been with Forever Hounds Trust for just over a month now and is ready to go to her forever home. Christine adds: “Mary is a very special girl and she doesn’t let having only three legs hold her back. She will bring much happiness to someone and she really deserves to enjoy life in a loving home.”
Forever Hounds Trust are keen to find homes for Mary and the other greyhounds and lurchers in their care. The organisation believes there has been a reduction in the number of people able to offer homes to rescued dogs as a result of a national change in circumstances. “The economic and housing situation in the UK is now having an effect on dogs like Mary” says Jan Lake, trustee of Forever Hounds Trust. “More people are in privately rented accommodation, and often pets are not allowed. We have seen a significant drop in the number of people rehoming dogs in the last few years, with half as many dogs finding new homes this year when compared to 2012.”
If you can help by offering Mary or another dog a home, please get in touch with Forever Hounds Trust on 03000 111 100 or email enquiries@foreverhoundstrust.org.
