Two very special greyhounds in search of a new home following sad death of their owner

18/02/2016

Jojo and Ollie

Forever Hounds Trust is making an urgent appeal to find a home for two lovely, gentle greyhounds currently in our care in Bedfordshire.

Jojo, a black ten-year-old female greyhound and Ollie, an eight-year-old white and brindle male are currently being looked after in a foster home in Dunstable. They came to Forever Hounds Trust following the sudden death of their owner and they now desperately need a new home to call their own.

Their foster-mum, Nita Sommerville, says they are more than ready to bring joy into a new owner’s home: “Jojo is a real sweetie and Ollie is a clown. Jojo steals the hearts of everyone who meets her. She’s so gentle and clever, and always happy to accept a cuddle. Ollie is very handsome and has an affectionate nature. They are two really lovely, ready-made dogs. A very sweet pair who are just waiting to find their forever home.”

Nita knows all about greyhounds and lurchers, having fostered 200 – 250 over the last eight years. She adds: “Greyhounds are such loving, gentle creatures. They are the perfect pet for older or disabled people as they are happy with a quick walk and then spend the rest of the day snuggled on the sofa or their bed, quite content. All the dogs I have fostered have been a joy, and it’s hard to see them go. I’ve broken my heart over a fair few, but it’s so rewarding to see them given a second chance at life with a new owner.”

Nita also says that a prospective new owner for Jojo and Ollie shouldn’t be fooled by the ages of the dogs. They still enjoy going out for a walk and can keep up with the younger dogs. Unfortunately Ollie has previously suffered a broken leg, but he is getting stronger on it. Nita says that it doesn’t bother him and he is enjoying being out and about, ambling around.

Jojo and Ollie were taken to an event in the centre of Dunstable last weekend, where they met lots of people and enjoyed all the attention. Both dogs are good with children, although they would prefer older children who won’t knock Ollie’s healing leg.

If you can help by offering Jojo and Ollie or another dog a home, please get in touch with us on 03000 111 100 or email homing@foreverhoundstrust.org.
