Which dog suits your lifestyle best, a ‘Dozing’ or a ‘Doing’ dog?

26/05/2017

Hector the dog running

Greyhounds, lurchers and other sighthounds (dogs with a pointy-ish face) make amazing pets and Forever Hounds Trust believe that, with the huge variety of dogs that come to the charity to find their forever home, they have a dog for everyone!

While many greyhounds prefer to spend most of the day chilling on the sofa, there are some that are more energetic. Lurchers are, by definition, any sighthound crossed with any other type of dog, which means they come in all shapes and sizes and every different personality type imaginable. Saluki’s, Whippets, Deerhounds are part of this group too, so there is infinite choice.

To help potential new owners find the right dog for them, Forever Hounds Trust have created two new tags for their online dog profiles. Visitors to the site will now be able to see whether a dog is a ‘Dozing’ or ‘Doing’ type of dog!

For those looking for a dog to chill out and snuggle up with on the sofa, a ‘Dozing’ dog would be the best fit. For those who want to be more active with long walks or maybe even running, cani cross or dog agility, a ‘Doing’ dog is the one for them.

Director of Homing, Kennelling and Welfare for Forever Hounds Trust, Emily Burns-Sweeney, said: “There really is a sighthound for everyone, whether you want to snuggle up indoors and only venture outside for a short walk, take up an energetic sport with your dog or anything in between!

“We have dogs for families, dogs for older people, dogs for other dogs and dogs that will do all this and more. The one thing all our dogs share is a need for a home of their own and someone to love them for the amazing, unique animals they are.”

If you would like to find out more about the dogs currently looking for a home with Forever Hounds Trust, please visit the dogs’ page here.

Doing Dog Hector!

Hector is a great example of a ‘doing’ dog! This beautiful lurcher boy is three years old and is a bright, lively, handsome hound! Hector is keen to learn. He already knows his basic commands and he would be more than willing to learn more as he has a wonderfully engaged and active mind. Hector would excel at something like agility, where he would be able to use his brain and his wonderful athleticism. For more about Hector, visit his profile page here.

Dozing Dogs Delta and Sierra!

Delta and Sierra are a pair of very sweet, gentle and quiet sisters. These glorious greyhounds are elderly girls who love a gentle walk or potter in the garden. They adore a bit of fuss and attention and will happily snuggle down for a snooze. They are a perfect example of dozing dogs and they will need a quiet home to go to. To find out more about Delta and Sierra, visit their profile page here.
