As we continue celebrating 30 years as a charity, we’re sharing stories of the wonderful hounds who we have helped find their forever homes – and the families whose lives they’ve filled with love.
Today, we’re remembering fabulous Suzie, a beautiful Saluki who found her forever family in 2014. From the moment they met her, she had their hearts.
Her family shares their story:
We adopted our fabulous Saluki, Suzie, from Forever Hounds Trust (then GRWE) in May 2014. We were hooked as soon as we saw her – in truth, it was never in doubt that she would be coming home with us!
She had been rescued in Limerick, Ireland, after being found under a pallet with her litter of pups. After an unfortunate first homing, she was re-rescued by a fabulous volunteer from Teignmouth, whom we saw many times afterwards at the Bicton sighthound playgroups.
Suzie’s ability to adapt and fit in without fuss to any situation never failed to amaze us, and she quickly became part of the wider family pack. At the time of her adoption, she featured in the charity’s publication, showing her antics with flying toys, which never diminished.
During lockdown, she won 1st prize for ‘The Loveliest Lady’ in the first-ever Forever Hounds Trust online dog show, although she was far too chilled out to make a fuss.
She was typical of the Saluki breed: aloof, laid-back, full of fun, mischievous and fiercely loyal to her humans. How lucky we were that she came into our lives.
Sadly, we lost her in August this year, but she will remain forever in our hearts.
From her difficult beginnings in Ireland to flying toys, family adventures and a ‘Loveliest Lady’ crown, Suzie found a home where she could be herself – cherished for every bit of mischief and every quiet moment together.
We’re so grateful to her family for giving her that love and for sharing these precious memories with us.
Sleep tight, beautiful Suzie. Forever part of your family, and forever in their hearts. 🌈🐾❤️
