A consultation was launched by the Scottish Government in relation to MSP Mark Ruskell’s proposed Prohibition of Greyhound Racing (Scotland) Bill, which aims to end greyhound racing in Scotland.
Forever Hounds Trust experience first-hand the emotional and physical scars the greyhound racing industry leave their discarded dogs with. Therefore we responded to the consultation highlighting this, as well as the human cost of racing especially in relation to gambling and the lives it destroys – fully supporting a ban.
We were delighted to hear that more than 86% of those who responded to the proposed Bill to ban greyhound racing in Scotland have expressed support for the measure Mark Ruskell MSP has now lodged a final proposal of the Bill.
If the Bill receives cross-party support from MSPs, it can then be introduced in the Scottish Parliament.
If this Bill is passed, it will be a huge step towards greyhound welfare, so we watch with great interest how the situation progresses. We will keep you informed accordingly.
