It’s Black Dog Day, a day that encourages the adoption of black dogs, so let’s take a moment to appreciate the elegance, grace, and unique beauty of black sighthounds. ![]()
Despite this, sadly these gorgeous hounds are less likely to be adopted for no other reason than their colouring. Regardless of behaviour, size, breeding, personality, or age, the phenomenon persists.
This is bad news for greyhounds, as with one of the most successful racing greyhounds of all time being black, there is a large lineage; black is also the most dominant colour gene. Therefore, there are always so many black greyhounds looking for homes.
However, we want to change the fact that black dogs are often overlooked and now is an appropriate time to introduce new arrival Tom, or Mr Tom as he’s already affectionately known in our kennels! At just five years old, we think he has a wise face which belies his years.

Celebrate Black Dog Day by sending a friend or family member one of our beautiful and unique e-cards……or, just send one to convince someone to adopt a black hound! A few of the many designs are pictured below.
Not only will this help promote the adoption of these overlooked hounds, every single donation supports the hounds in our care…of all colours!
Ps, whilst you’re there, check out our beautiful sighthound-themed e-cards for all occasions!
