Ada was homed in 2022, and we received this lovely update from her mum recently….
Ada came home to me in January 2022, following the death of my first hound, Forever Hounds Trust adoptee Penny, in November 2021. Ada and Penny were first cousins (courtesy of descent from Top Honcho) but very different in looks, personality and tastes – though Penny too was a diva, in her own way!
It took about 18 months for Ada really to settle, and she still has sleep startle – she growls if I disturb her by coughing at night! But it’s manageable. It was a learning process for both of us: Penny had lived in another home before she came to me, but everything was new to Ada; she is a clever and feisty girl and quite a lot of boundary-testing went on once she started to gain confidence. Luckily though she has not (yet) worked out how to open doors! But she’s always been a really affectionate, cuddly girl, and does an epic lean – as she’s close to 30kg I have to brace myself for her!
It was her ninth birthday in July. She’s doing very well; rather less inclined to do zoomies or to jump up to greet me, but she still loves her food, treats and cuddles. We have a very settled, predictable routine; I suspect the quiet life suits her pretty well. She is as bossy as ever – her lunchtime Kong has to be put down within easy reach of her paw, or she gives me The Look until I put it in the right place for her
Fun fact – she loves broccoli stalks but won’t touch kale.
I absolutely adore her. I think it might be mutual, but she isn’t saying 😊
I remain eternally grateful to Forever Hounds Trust for rescuing and rehabilitating this gorgeous, adorable, (sometimes infuriating) girl, and entrusting her to me. Thank you!
