We received this lovely update from Isaac’s family, which perfectly illustrates how time and patience is often key to helping a newly adopted hound feel comfortable with their new life.
We are proud to say that all dogs adopted from Forever Hounds Trust come with free behaviourial support for the life of that dog, and we are delighted to hear when that reaps the rewards, as is the case with handsome Isaac.
Isaac came to us in February 2021 at the age of four. He was shy, disliked being petted and was generally a bag of nerves! Other dogs seemed like aliens to him, and he couldn’t be left alone at all. It took him six weeks to wag his tail.
We worked with a behaviourist from Forever Hounds Trust to tackle his reactivity towards other dogs, and within a year, he was much calmer. These days, he knows a few tricks, has some doggy friends, can be left alone for up to four hours and loves a cuddle (within reason!). He is also a great doggy big brother to our baby Rupert. Isaac is an irreplaceable part of our life and worth every bit of time and patience spent on him.
I hear it’s harder to rehome black hounds with grey faces, and I can’t understand why. Isaac’s face melts our hearts every day. We were so overwhelmed as first-time dog owners, but we would recommend this to anyone.
