The chance of life…
New sighthounds are arriving with us every week. The dogs coming into our care are from racing tracks, stray pounds and homes. Some arrive in fairly good health, but others come in a poor condition and in need of veterinary treatment. It is our aim to help as many hounds as we can, which is why your support is so vital.
We know that times are tough for lots of people at the moment, and it is heartbreaking that when faced with a large vet bill people are having to think about putting their animals to sleep – that is exactly what happened to Peggy.
We received a call from a vet nurse late one evening, telling us about an emergency that had just come in. The emergency was a dog who had been bitten by another dog in the home. The owners had taken her to the Out of Hours vet to see what they could do. We learnt that the extensive nature of the wounds meant that there was a risk that she may not survive, that healing could be slow and treatment costly; this was our introduction to the plight of 8 year old Peggy.
Peggy deserved a chance of life; her owners could not afford the veterinary treatment she needed, and she could not go back into their home. We agreed to help, and that night her wounds were flushed and stitched. The next day Peggy came into our care and began her journey to her new life. After many vet trips and several worrying ups and downs Peggy pulled through; she is now living life in her new home where she has settled in beautifully.
Peggy is just one example of a life we have been able to change this year, please support our Winter Appeal and help us to change more lives in 2024.
