Suri’s Story

We love hearing updates about our adopted hounds, so we were delighted to receive this heart-warming story of resilience from Suri’s mum.

I adopted Suri 18 years ago from Forever Hounds Trust (then GRWE), where I was a trustee at the time. Suri had been found tied up outside a pound in a terrible state. She had lost most of her fur due to severe sarcoptic mange, was covered in sores, and had clearly recently had puppies, though there was no sign of them anywhere.

A kind-hearted dog warden brought her into the care of GRWE, and I volunteered to take her in as an emergency fosterer. Suri joined our family of four other sighthounds and despite everything she’d been through, she quickly showed what a gentle, loving soul she was. We decided to adopt Suri as she had quickly become part of our family.

Not long after Suri’s rescue, a local vet, in the same area where she had been found, called GRWE. A large litter of puppies had been abandoned outside their practice. The pups were also suffering from sarcoptic mange and were in desperate need of help.

To everyone’s amazement, it turned out these puppies were Suri’s! Sadly, Suri was still too weak to care for them herself, so the puppies went into foster homes where they received the medical treatment and love they needed. Every single one made a full recovery and went on to find wonderful forever homes.

As for Suri, she stayed with us. She blossomed into the most beautiful, gentle girl and has been part of our life ever since. Now, at 20 years old, she’s an incredible age for a dog, and although she’s taking things much slower these days, she’s still enjoying life and all the love around her.

I hope her puppies are doing just as well and it would be wonderful to hear from their owners.
