We are Recruiting – Sighthound Carer

05/08/2026

Sighthound Carer

Location: Margaret Green Animal Rescue, Lincoln Farm Centre, Blandford Forum, Dorset DT11 9BP
Salary: £26,438 per annum (pro rata for part-time hours)
Hours: Part-time or full-time (40 hours per week) considered. Includes weekends and bank holidays on a rota basis.

Help Change a Sighthound’s Future

At Forever Hounds Trust, we rescue, rehabilitate and rehome greyhounds, lurchers and other sighthounds in need. Every dog that comes into our care has their own story, and our dedicated team works tirelessly to ensure each one receives the support, care and second chance they deserve.

We are looking for a compassionate and enthusiastic Sighthound Carer to join our Welfare, Kennels and Homing team based at Margaret Green Animal Rescue’s Lincoln Farm Centre in Dorset.

This is a rewarding, practical role where no two days are the same. You will play a vital part in providing excellent care for our dogs, supporting their rehabilitation and helping them find loving forever homes.

What You’ll Be Doing

As a Sighthound Carer, you’ll be involved in all aspects of daily dog care and welfare, including:

  • Providing excellent day-to-day care for dogs in our kennels
  • Feeding, exercising, grooming and enriching dogs in our care
  • Monitoring welfare and behaviour, reporting concerns and supporting rehabilitation plans
  • Maintaining high standards of cleanliness, hygiene and kennel management
  • Supporting veterinary care, medication administration and veterinary visits
  • Assisting with adopter visits, dog introductions and homing appointments
  • Helping create positive adoption matches and successful rehoming outcomes
  • Keeping accurate welfare, behaviour and medical records
  • Working closely with colleagues, volunteers and external professionals

About You

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has experience caring for animals in a paid or voluntary role
  • Is passionate about animal welfare and making a difference
  • Has a good understanding of dog handling and canine welfare
  • Is confident communicating with members of the public and colleagues
  • Works well both independently and as part of a team
  • Is organised, reliable and committed to high standards
  • Holds a full UK driving licence

Experience within a rescue, kennel or rehoming environment would be an advantage, particularly with greyhounds, lurchers or other sighthounds, but above all we’re looking for someone who shares our commitment to giving every dog the best possible future.

What We Offer

  • Pension scheme
  • 33 days annual leave including bank holidays (pro rata for part-time staff)
  • Health Cash Plan
  • Ongoing learning and development opportunities
  • The chance to make a genuine difference to the lives of rescued dogs every day

Join Our Team

If you’re passionate about animal welfare and would like to play an important role in helping greyhounds and lurchers find loving homes, we’d love to hear from you.
