When a member of the public contacted us, asking if we could help a 15 year old greyhound who had been advertised on the web as needing a new home due to his owner was sadly no longer able to care for him, we sprung into action.
Despite being nowhere near our Centre in Devon, we contacted his owner, and arranged to take Bertie into our care. One of our team drove up to the the Midlands to collect him and deliver him to a foster home in Wales where he will spend the rest of his life.

His owner has loved and cared for him for a long time, he can no longer do so and did the right thing finding a new home for his precious boy.

It just goes to show, we will help dogs in need wherever they are in the country. Also, even when our Centre is full, we can still help – Bertie is a great example of that. We cannot thank his wonderful foster mum enough for welcoming him into her heart and her home.
He’s now having a really lovely time in his foster home, and is getting on great with his three new sisters. He’s generally made himself at home, is eating well and is putting on a bit of weight.
Sometimes people wonder why people can give up dogs, but it’s clear to us that Bertie’s owner loved him very much indeed, and was sadly no longer able to care for him due to his own ill health. Despite it being hard, the kindest thing to do in this instance was to look for another loving home for Bertie with the help of his friend who advertised Bertie’s plight. He is now reassured that his beloved Bertie is now safe and loved.
We are just grateful we were able to step in and help all concerned.
