Back in March we sadly lost one of our special volunteers – Anita Somerville. Foster mum Nita had helped literally hundreds of our dogs find happy homes, but….occasionally one stole her heart….Julio, the dog that was sadly left behind when she passed away was a rare failed foster – he was her world.

Step forward one of our volunteer homing officers, Karen. Karen tells us
Nita was present when I first ‘met’ the charity. My greyhound Lacey was her first foster, so she is why I began my journey with Forever Hounds Trust.
Karen and Nita had since become firm friends, sharing their love of helping hounds, so, when Julio lost his mum, Karen was keen to welcome him into her home, initially as a foster to ensure her own greyhound Kora would accept this handsome newcomer. Well, Kora knew better than to reject this handsome hunk of a hound, so before long, Karen and her husband signed on the dotted line to welcome Julio into the family…forever! Julio is now called Hoolie (with Nita’s families permission), and he is settling in well with his new sister. Karen tells us
I feel as though a circle has been closed – now Nita’s life journey has ended, it just seems fitting that Hoolie is now part of my family.
We couldn’t agree more, we know Nita would be so happy that her precious boy is now safe and happy in the care of her dear friend Karen.
