Following the release of the Greyhound Board of Great Britain’s (GBGB) annual statistics, Forever Hounds Trust is disappointed by the latest figures, which reveal the ongoing and unacceptable risks facing greyhounds involved in racing.
In 2024, there were 3,809 reported injuries sustained at tracks to racing greyhounds — a staggering number that reflects incidents on UK racetracks over the year. It’s important to clarify that this number refers to total injuries, not the number of individual dogs affected. Some greyhounds may have suffered multiple injuries.
Even more distressing is the report of 123 track fatalities, marking the highest number of greyhounds who lost their lives on the track since 2020.
These are not just statistics — they represent individual dogs who have suffered pain, fear, and in too many cases, lost their lives. For just one greyhound to suffer is enough, yet alone this number, hence why Forever Hounds Trust is calling for a ban to greyhound racing in the UK.
