Nita – January 8 1946 – March 26 2020
Last week Forever Hounds Trust lost a dear friend. Nita first became a part of our family of volunteers 12 years ago, when she responded to an appeal for foster carers. Her offer was gratefully accepted and her first temporary resident, Lacey, was soon installed to be loved and expertly cared for until she was ready to go to her forever home.
It turned out that Lacey was to be the first of many, and over the years Nita cared for literally hundreds of needy hounds. Some were unwell and Nita nursed them back to health. Others were not coping in kennels or had sadly lost their owners. Whatever the reason, Nita was always there for them.
Some, of course, stayed with her forever, but most went on their way in time. To their very own forever homes. They were never forgotten though and Nita kept in touch with most of them, with many returning to her for their ‘holidays’, always happy to be back with her for a short while.
As if being a foster mum wasn’t already a big enough ask, Nita understood the need for fundraising and she set about arranging events in the Eastern region. Nita was on the committee of the team’s Annual Fun Dog Show and also our ‘go to’ judge at this and many other smaller shows in our calendar.
Rest well Nita. We have lost a true and loyal friend. Both to us as people, but also our hounds.
