Dolly and Keef were the unfortunate start to our 2025 Summer Appeal when they came to us after their owner was seriously injured in a car accident. Keef, a gentle soul, had been adopted years earlier, and after losing his canine companion, Dolly had joined the family, bringing joy and companionship back into his life. Suddenly, both hounds needed a safe place to stay – and thanks to your generous donations, we were there for them.
Homing a pair of dogs is always more challenging than finding homes for just one, but fortunately, a wonderful couple believed that two were better than one and applied to adopt them. Six months later, we received this heartwarming update…
It’s been half a year since Dolly and Keef joined us, and what a joyful whirlwind it has been. From the moment they arrived, it was clear they were no strangers to home comforts. They settled in almost instantly – claiming sofas, testing out beds, and generally making themselves thoroughly at home. Their confidence and ease were the first signs that they had been cherished before, and we’ve made it our mission to continue that same level of love and care.

Keef: The Snack Detective, has quickly earned a reputation for his extraordinary hearing – especially when it comes to food. A packet of biscuits opened three rooms away? He’ll be there in seconds. And ice cream? Let’s just say no one in the house has enjoyed the last bite alone since his arrival. His enthusiasm for treats is matched only by his impeccable behaviour on walks. His recall is near-perfect.
Dolly: Queen of the Toys; Dolly’s world revolves around toys. Soft toys, squeaky toys, toys she treasures – and toys she enthusiastically dismantles. There’s no predicting which ones will survive, but one thing’s certain: there will always be a steady stream of new favourites heading her way. Her recall is still a work in progress, though she’s making great strides. Armed with the squeaker from one of her recently “retired” toys and a pocket full of treats, we’ve found a system that works nine times out of ten. Still, for her safety – and for the peace of local wildlife – we’re careful about when she’s off lead.
Both dogs have shown themselves to be gentle, affectionate, and wonderfully well behaved. It’s clear they arrived with a solid foundation of love and training, and we’re delighted to build on it. As we look back on these first six months, one thing is certain: Dolly and Keef have brought laughter, warmth, and plenty of memorable moments into our home.
Here’s to many more months – and years – of adventures with this delightful pair.
