We love hearing about how our hounds are getting on in their forever homes, so we were thrilled when Peppa’s owner got in touch to share some details about their eleven (yes eleven!) years of life with their ‘pawfect’ friend….

We met our beautiful girl for the first time in 2010 at the home of her wonderful foster Mum Gulie. A shy and reserved little lady, it broke our hearts how she sat so distantly – and tried so hard to do the ‘right thing’ shadowing Gulie’s own pups. We could not have been more delighted to be selected (after an anxious wait!) to offer Peppa her forever home – and a love affair began! Eleven gotcha days on and our beautiful girl is 16 (going on 250!) and always the love of our lives. We have been so delighted and privileged over the years to witness the pain and fear of her former life recede and to see her blossom and adore being so loved and cherished. She has revealed her personality and found her voice and sense of fun, and even some dance moves!
Peppa’s life changed immeasurably again when we were blessed by Forever Hounds Trust with the gift of our second sight hound Chester – a little pup who stole all our hearts! Although she has always bossed him mercilessly, he has adored her unwaveringly and proved to be Peppa’s guardian and protector in later years – the two are inseparable partners in crime. Life with Peps has not always been easy – a hardwired love of hunting has resulted in many hours crying in fields searching for her – and a £6000 vet bill for a stay at Davies Veterinary Hospital to treat a lung infection after a run-in with a badger during one desperate escapade! Thankfully, we all lived to fight another day and the discovery of GPS trackers gave us back a measure of control!
We hope we have given our darling Peppa a very happy second life. Paddling in the Thames, running on the beach, lying in the garden in the sun, tummy rubs, kisses, smoked salmon bagels and bacon rolls and huge cuddles on the bed are her favourite things – and she still enjoys them all! She might need a ramp to get in the car now, but she still climbs the stairs to bed like a mountain goat – especially when she has stolen the cat food en route! We know we may not have too many days more with our darling heart girl but we treasure every one – and continue to create memories that will last a lifetime. Thank you, Forever Hounds Trust for entrusting us with the care of such a remarkable lady who we could not love more and who has changed our lives forever in the best possible way.

Enjoying the sun Peppa and Chester meet! Thick as thieves…
