We’re delighted to share some exciting updates with you.
In 2024 we launched our new strategy Recovery, Stability, Visibility to help us rebuild after several challenging years due to the impact of Covid and the ongoing cost of living crisis – pressures that have affected the entire animal welfare sector. During this time, we had to make some difficult decisions, but thanks to the dedication of our staff, volunteers, supporters, donors and funders we are now looking ahead to a much brighter future. The charity is on a stronger financial footing, and we’re filled with optimism for what lies ahead.
As part of our forward planning, we have started to explore how we can secure a better future for the hounds in our care, starting with our centre in Devon. We commissioned a local firm of architects to carry out a feasibility assessment of the site to evaluate its potential and identify any development constraints. Our goals include:
- Increasing kennel capacity to help more dogs
- Redeveloping and enhancing existing facilities, including kennels and outdoor spaces
- Improving essential amenities such as the laundry and kitchen
- Upgrading training and staff facilities
- Creating a welcoming space for visitors and potential adopters – a comfortable environment where our dogs can meet their new families
The feasibility study highlighted some limitations at the current site, particularly around access, drainage, and power, which would require significant investment. As a result, the Trustees have decided to put the centre on the market and begin the search for alternative premises that better meet our needs or offer greater development potential. If a sale is not achieved, we will revisit the option of developing the current site, with a review scheduled for late autumn. This step-by-step approach ensures our decisions are evidence based and aligned with our strategic goals, always with the welfare of the hounds at heart.
Like many animal rescues, we are also working to expand our fostering and home-from-home schemes. However, many greyhounds and lurchers still rely on kennel space. That is why we remain committed to building a resilient charity – one that can grow and secure a brighter future for the hounds.
Thank you for your continued support. We look forward to keeping you updated on our progress.
