We were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of one of our sponsor dogs, Barney.
When greyhound Barney was rescued he was very withdrawn, seemed unable to walk properly and had trouble sleeping. Therefore, we worked hard to identify the issue to see whether there was anything we could do to give him a chance of life. After various vet appointments and scans, it became apparent he had severe spinal problems and muscle seizures which led him to be in constant pain. It was likely this had been caused by intensive racing.
Barney was prescribed painkilling medication and physiotherapy which started to transform him into a more confident, happier soul. He was placed with a special family who would continue the treatment plan indefinitely and give him the life he deserved. They, along with their greyhound Faith taught him how to trust people and enjoy life again.
As you can imagine, it’s a huge ask for any family to home a dog like this due to the financial and time commitment in respect of his medication and attendance at appointments; this could be just too much to bear. However, as Barney had proven to us that he deserved a chance, he became a supported dog, and his wonderful sponsors supported him over the years. Thanks to them, and the love and care of his family, Barney enjoyed his second chance at life. He sadly passed away unexpectedly due to an unrelated condition at 12 years old, reunited with his ‘sister’ Faith who had passed away less than a month before.
A huge thank you to all his wonderful sponsors that gave Barney the chance, and his family for being such wonderful custodians of this special boy for many years. Our sincerest condolences to them, for not only the loss of Barney, but also Faith, another Forever Hounds Trust rescue.
Sleep tight Barney 💔🌈
