Friday the 23rd June is ‘National Bring Your Dog To Work Day’, and for Kii, a rescued greyhound, that means accompanying Rev Claire Lording to church.
Kiki came to live with Claire, who is the vicar at Pershore Abbey, in Worcestershire, a few months ago, after the lovable dog found herself in the care of greyhound and lurcher rescue charity Forever Hounds Trust. Kiki has been quick to settle into life with the vicar though, and has become an honorary parishioner, joining Claire for some of her services.
Claire says: “Greyhounds make such wonderful pets, and Kiki is loved by all who meet her. National Bring Your Dog To Work Day is a great time to celebrate these special animals that share our lives. Kiki often comes to church with me and she is always warmly welcomed by parishioners. I am lucky to have a job where Kiki us sometimes able to accompany me, and she always enjoys coming to the Abbey!”
Finding such a happy home has been wonderful for Kiki, who came to Forever Hounds Trust after retiring from the racing industry. Emily Burns-Sweeny, Director of Homing for the charity said: “It’s wonderful for us when our dogs go on to have such happy lives. There are so many greyhounds and lurchers in need of a home and as soon as we find a forever home for one there is another that comes in needing our help.”
Greyhounds and lurchers make great pets, something which Claire wholeheartedly agrees with. She says: “I wouldn’t be without a greyhound. Kiki is the fifth greyhound I have had and they have all been absolutely wonderful in very different ways. They bring so much joy to life. I think everyone should have a greyhound!”
